I was unaware of the impact Net.art has had on technologies as they have progressed over the past 2 decades. Net.art was an accident that occurred as the result of a software glitch December of 1995. The term “net.art” was used to describe online art and communications, soon this term became popular when describing everyday activities. Net.art consists of; graphics, emails, texts, images, referring to and merging into one another, artists, enthusiasts, and technoculture critics trading ideas. This accident created a whole new world and opportunities for art. Art no longer necessarily had to to be physically tangible and net.art allowed for art to be shared on a variety of platforms and reach all corners of the world. By 1999, net.art had taken off and net.artists were overwhelmingly excited about the pending popularity and relevance. Net.art has connected so many people and artists on a huge scale, it deserves more recognition than it has been receiving. As an artist, I am shocked that I am just not learning about the impacts net.art has had on the continuously progressing art community. Although net.art may not be heading in the right direction and may be becoming more institutionalized, it has inspired a whole new medium within art regardless where it ends up.
